The first ethic of Permaculture is to care for the earth and all the in-habitants of the earth. Permaculture is a solutions based design science which integrates nature and its ecological systems, and humans with their settlements. It consists both of a philosophy and system of ethics, plus a wealth of practical applications for creating a sustainable future.
The scope of Permaculture is vast. It bridges traditional wisdom, ecological literacy and appropriate technologies. Including a variety of integrated sciences, Permaculture fills in essential pieces of the puzzle. It helps us to understand our relationship to design and how we create our lives and environments.
The workshop will include theory, discussion and hands on expe-rience.
Some topics the workshop will explore include;
*Permaculture ethics and principles
*Ecology and natural patterns
*Design principles and process
*Organic gardening and fertility management
*Alternative agriculture
*Plant propagation
*Agroforestry
*Aquaculture
*Integrated animal systems
*Water: Resources and management
*Natural building and passive solar design

RESUME OF EVAN MARKS:
Evan Marks was born in Newport Beach where he gained a deep appreciation for the natural world, growing up surfing. In high school he began volunteering with the Surfrider Foundation where he gained a greater awareness about local and global environmental issues. When he learned that among the greatest environmental impacts and pollutants come from the agricultural sector, his life long passion and involvement in organic agriculture and Ecological Design began. Evan studied Agroecology and Natural History at the University of California Santa Cruz. During this time he traveled throughout Latin America, California and Hawaii studying Ecology, Natural History and Permaculture Design. Evan has continued his study of how humans most efficiently interact with ecology and agriculture throughout Latin America. He has designed and currently manages a model farm, Selva Nueva, which seeks to demonstrate sustainable development and Permaculture Design, highlighting the appropriate technologies of Agroforestry, Holistic Animal Management, Analogue Forestry, Natural Building and Aquaculture. Selva Nueva has turned into a premier center of education and demonstration in Sustainable Development and Restoration Ecology for the Osa Peninsula and Costa Rica as a whole. Evan is also involved in the Ecological Design of commercial, residential and agricultural landscapes with his design firm, Pacific Coast Permaculture Design, throughout Costa Rica and California.
